Support Cardiff YMCA

Youth Department

Cardiff YMCA Youth & Community Department responds creatively to the needs of young people and their communities. Never has the challenge of youth work been greater than at the present time. Young people live in a whirlwind of media, information and materialism. The world is changing rapidly but the problems for young people remain the same. Young people are not children but neither are they adults. The process from childhood to adulthood can be difficult whatever their social background. They need reliable, impartial information, support and understanding.

We promote opportunities for children and young people to gain the knowledge, skills and experience to reach their full potential as valued individuals. Our programmes are continually under development but aim to encourage personal development, self-awareness and self-acceptance and to support young people in making informed choices.

Youth work at Cardiff YMCA is characterised by:
  • The voluntary involvement of young people
  • Being age specific, focused on 11-25 year olds
  • An informal educational approach
  • Being driven by a “young people first” attitude
  • A universal approach.
Our services include:
  • detached, outreach and mobile work;
  • issue based workshops
  • information, advice and guidance
  • project work;
  • residential work;
  • targeted provision for specific groups;
  • one to one work;
  • partnership working;
  • mechanisms for involving young people in decision-making processes;
